Richard Allen Pierce was born on January 14, 1947, to Mary Lee Lumpkin Pierce and Cooley Pierce. Richard was a true blessing to all who knew him and he brought so much joy and happiness to everyone he encountered.
His mother, along with Miss Nellie Byers, played a vital role in establishing the original Nellie Byers Training Center. Richard cherished the friendships he formed there, enjoying his time with lifelong friends and actively engaging in the community through fundraisers, arts, and crafts that were shared throughout the parish.
Richard was a member of Lee's Creek Baptist Church but was also welcomed into the church family of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa where he shared his faith with the members of the Happy Hearts Sunday School group. Richard loved to sing his hymns and worship and share in the love of God.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Ben Pierce, Bob Pierce, Bessie Thompson, Emogene Moore, and Patricia Glenn.
He is survived by his brother, Huey Pierce (Martha). Richard was blessed with many special nieces and nephews who played an instrumental role in his care, including Frank (Theresa) Glenn, Shonna Pierce, Chav (Rebecca) Pierce, Robert Glenn and Patrick Glenn. He also leaves behind numerous other nieces, nephews, great, great-great nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish his memory.
Richard's presence will also be deeply missed by his dear friends and housemates in his group home.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of BrightSprings Health Services (ResCare) and Passages Hospice Care for their compassionate support over the years. A special thanks to Richard's caregivers and friends—Ms. Robin, Victoria, Vanessa, Ms. Helen Mr. Brandon, Ms. Rose, and Nurse Stacie for their kindness and unwavering care.
Richard's life was a testament to love, friendship, and faith. He will be remembered with great affection and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held at Poole Ritchie Funeral Home (216 Alabama Avenue, Bogalusa, Louisiana 70427) at 3:00 pm, Saturday, April 26, 2025. Burial will follow in Pierce Cemetery (60299 Chadell Road, Bogalusa, Louisiana 70427). Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm, Saturday at the funeral home.
