Michael Lee Melancon

October 15, 1977 – November 5, 2026

Michael Lee Melancon was born on October 15, 1977, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, to Joseph and Cynthia Lee Melancon.

He attended Annunciation Catholic School and graduated from Bogalusa High School, Class of 1995, where he was an honor graduate, a three-year letterman in baseball, and an All-District baseball player.

Michael continued his education at Pearl River Community College for two years and was a member of the golf team during his sophomore year. He later transferred to Louisiana State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

A lifelong member of Annunciation Catholic Church, he served as an altar server and was recognized as Altar Server of the Year.

Above all, Michael treasured his three children, Aubrie Elizabeth, Sutton Renee, and Beckham Kash Melancon, who were his greatest blessings.

Michael leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory, including his parents, Joey and Cindy Melancon; his grandmother, Mary Melancon; his sister, Michelle (Rusty) Goode; his niece, Elise Goode; and his nephew, Kyle (Liz) Hatten.

His extended family includes Duane and Freda Billings and Roy and Cathy Melancon; his cousins, Katie (Lewis) Ritchie, Sarah (Andrew) Miller, and Alex (Greta Voelkel) Billings; and the younger generation of cousins, Hudson, Chandler, and Reese Ritchie, Kathryn and Hayes Miller, Thomas Billings, and great nephews Nolan and Caleb Hatten.

Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Ernestine Lee and Roy Melancon, as well as his great-grandparents, Hilda Lee, Sam and Louise Cerniglia, John and Amelia Melancon, and G.S. and Maude Chandler.

A smile, a handshake, a hug, or a pat on the back. These are the little things so many of us will miss about Michael. Whether walking into a room, a stadium, a gymnasium, or a baseball field, you could always count on Michael being there with a smile, a friendly greeting, and a story to tell.

If you ever wanted to know the details of a ball game or golf match, all you had to do was ask Michael. His remarkable memory for sporting events, players, and statistics was something special. Although he enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, there was never any question where his heart belonged. Michael loved LSU athletics and proudly supported the purple and gold.

Michael had a larger-than-life personality and a genuine love for people. He never met a stranger, and no matter where he went, he always seemed to know someone. Whether at a ball game, a family gathering, or simply walking down the street, Michael took the time to stop and talk. A quick hello could easily turn into a long conversation. He valued his friendships and had a way of making everyone feel like an old friend.

Mardi Gras was another tradition Michael held close to his heart. As a member of the House of Dionysus, he had the honor of serving as Duke on two occasions. He especially loved riding in the parade, celebrating Mardi Gras, and sharing the experience with friends and fellow krewe members.

Michael will be remembered for his love of family, his loyalty to his friends, his passion for sports, and the countless lives he touched along the way.

If you knew Michael, you have a Michael story. And chances are, it’s one that still makes you smile.
