Leatha "Toad" Dunaway, age 89 years, crossed over into Paradise to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 29, 2025 in the Greenbriar Nursing Home in Slidell, Louisiana.
Known to many as "Aunt Toad", led a simple life in the service of God. She was a living testament to the Gospel of Jesus and a legacy to all who knew her. "Aunt Toad" was a faithful employee of the Bogalusa City Schools as a cook for 27 years.
She is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Etta Moran Hedrick and Howard "Buddy Hedrick; her father and stepmother, Heber E. Dunaway, Sr. and Helen Dunway; one brother, C.J. Dunaway, Sr.; one sister, Reatha D. Miller; half-brother, Howard Dunaway; uncle, Clifton Moran, aunt, Cassie Moran; nephews, C.J., Jr., Ronnie, Tommy, Davie; and a niece, Patty.
Family members include her half-brother, Heber Dunaway, Jr.; nephews, David Miller, Glen Dunaway; nieces, Alicia M. Crain, Sandra D. Harris; numerous great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Though, she never married, nor had children of her own – she surrounded herself with family and her animals which she considered, "her children".
The world is a better place because of "Aunt Toad".
Graveside funeral services will be held in Ponemah Cemetery (1136 Louisiana Avenue, Bogalusa, LA 70427) on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 10:00 am. Rev. Frederick Brumfield will officiate the service.
