John H. “Johnny” Johnson passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026, surrounded by his family at his residence at the age of 95. He was born to Herman J. Jonson and Mary Galoota Jonson in New Orleans, LA on November 21, 1930. He was a devoted member of SABC for 59 years serving as deacon, taught the Fisher of Men Sunday school class for 33 years. At the age of 70, he was called to work with the youth, with the co-teachers, Skipper Keaton and Cindy Wallace for 9 years, this was his most rewarding time of his Christian service.
At the time of his father’s death in 1940 his mother moved him and his 2 brothers to Bogalusa, LA. He graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1948, and then he joined the United States Navy where he spent the next 4 years serving his country. Then, he attended and graduated from Louisiana Tec with an engineering degree in 1957. He started a career with LP&L as a district manager for 23 years in Bogalusa, LA. He was very active in community activities with the Rotary for 39 years, Washington Parish Industrial Development Foundation, Red Cross, and many others.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Henri-Ellen Borde Johnson; 2 sons, Guy (Carolyn) Johnson, and Mark (Carlyon) Johnson; granddaughters, Angie (Walter) Bringaze and Kandon (Richard) Langston; 3 great grandchildren, Anden, Cade, and Karalie Langston; 2 sister in laws, Reatha Borde, and Patricia Johnson; special cousin, Mary Dugan Brignac; 3 nephews, Ronald (Jessie) Johnson., Ryan Borde, and Jason Borde. Also survived by numerous other relatives, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mary Johnson; sister, Louise Johnson; brothers, Herman A. and George A. Johnson; nephews, Donald and Jeff Johnson.
A Funeral Service will be held at Superior Avenue Church, 1301 North Columbia Road, Bogalusa, LA on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Clay Norwood officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sanctuary of Peace Mausoleum in Ponemah Cemetery, Bogalusa, LA.
Active Pallbearers: Anden Langston, George Bateman, Skipper Keaton, Janola Walker, Robert McGehee, and Whit Gallaspy. Honorary Pallbearers: Stanley Green, Cade Lanston, Ronnie Brown, Bill Cole, Butch Beets, Spike McCullough, Robin Ragland, and Charlie Carney
A visitation will be held at the church on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M.
The family would like to send a big “Thank You for All You Did” to Shani, Jennie, Juliett, Cody, Latoyna, and Brent at Modern Hospice.
