James Edward Abernathy, 58, resident of Bogalusa, LA passed away at Our lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa, LA on January 1, 2021.  He was born in Chicago, IL on June 28, 1962.  He was a veteran of the United States Army as well as serving in the United States Coast Guard and was currently working as a Correctional Officer with the Tangipahoa Sheriff's Department.

He is survived by his daughters Stacey Abernathy, Tina Fish, Rebbeca Abernathy; his brothers Johnathan Abernathy, Christopher Abernathy, Matthew Kolus and Anthony Kolus; three grandchildren Gabriell Abernathy, Nicole Fish, Alexander Fish; and two great grandchildren Thomas Abernathy and Octavia Abernathy.

He is preceded by his wife Tammie Lee Abernathy; and his parents Aaron Lee Abernathy and Ann Elizabeth Huling.

Services to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Poole Ritchie Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 12:30 pm and remaining open until 2:00 pm in the chapel.  To conclude the service's, he will be given Military Rites by the United States Coast Guard.
