Obituary

Ms. Jacqueline "Jackie" Fornea Brignac, 77, passed from this life peacefully and suddenly, on February 20th, 2025.  She will forever be remembered as the beautiful, witty, and passionate soul that she was.

She always said that she loved babies and flowers, but naturally her greatest joy was her grandchildren.  Madelyn, Alex, Reece, Rhett, Ava and Lola were her real "true loves," and she took great delight in all of their endeavors. Everyone who knew Jackie knew she lived for them. She also was equally delighted in surprising the people she loved, as evidenced by the perpetual stash of fireworks always at the ready.

Ms. Brignac was a staunch and sometimes fiery advocate for her children, grandchildren, and students.   She was the ultimate cheerleader for them.  Skills honed, no doubt, during her high school years on the varsity squad at Varnado High School.

She was also a proud member of the Varnado High School basketball team and earned distinguishing titles of "Most Athletic," as well as "Most Beautiful."  Jackie was crowned 1964-65 Washington Parish FFA Queen (now Washington Parish Fair Queen), as well as Homecoming Queen during her high school years.

Jackie was always a fierce competitor, even winning a hula-hoop contest as a young woman, but she was never self-congratulatory.  She genuinely wanted everyone to be the best possible version of themselves.

She used that competitiveness as the Angie Jr. High School girls' basketball coach for over 15 years, her team consistently won the parish championship.  She had a unique talent and love for the sport.  Jackie had the ability to inspire greatness in her athletes and students.  She also served as cheerleader sponsor and was on the Junior High Homecoming Committee for the majority of her thirty-year education career.

She is survived by her children: Shantelle Brignac Williams, Rudy (Lanae) Brignac, and Summer (Ben) Godwin .  Also are her precious grandchildren Alex Williams, Reece Brignac, Rhett Brignac, Ava Godwin, and Lola Godwin, and her brother Wendell Fornea.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dorman "Jack" and Blanche Fornea, her brother Mickey Fornea, and her granddaughter Madelyn Williams.

She is also survived by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, former students and friends that she never missed an opportunity to spend time with them, to listen to them, and to make them laugh.

Jackie lived and loved with such intensity and passion.  Life with Jackie was never a dull moment.  Few people live with such strong feelings and emotions and love for life. Our lives won't be the same without her.

She was adamant that her passing from this world not be a glum, morbid affair.  Please help her family honor her wishes by joining them at: Old Fornea Cemetery, 25497 LA-1071, Angie, LA  at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, for a farewell service and a celebration of her life at The Place, 426 Georgia Avenue, Bogalusa, LA, at 2:00 pm.
