Hazel Irene Lewis, 84, of Bogalusa, LA passed away on May 19, 2024. She was born in New Orleans, LA on February 9, 1940 to the late Sibyl Sumrall and was the eldest of 5 children.
Hazel was married to Joseph Martin Lewis, Sr., who preceded her in death. She is survived by children; Joseph Lewis, Jr., Judy (Mike) Fussell, Paul Lewis, and Dena (Alan) Baltimore. Grandchildren; Joni, Jordan, Laura, Linda, Macy, Mandy, Nathaniel, and Tenesha. Great grandchildren; Adeline, Alexis, Benjamin, Bentley, Blake, Brayden, Brylee, Chelsea, EllaGrace, Gerard, Jace, Jaedyn, Kaitlyn, Malachi, Peyton, and Tony. Great great grandchildren; Kane, Mahkai, and William. Two brothers; Thomas (Kathleen) Fowler and Marshall (Sharon) Fowler. She was preceded in death by a child, Christine Quave; two grandchildren, Brian Allen and Ruth; and two great grandchildren, Alma and Danae; two sisters, Dianne Lewis and Suzon Carney.
Hazel was a devoted wife and mother. Her children were involved with the Explorers and she volunteered as a leader. She rooted for them at their softball and volleyball games and at their canoe marathons. After her children were grown, she went back to school and got her GED and became a Certified Nurse's Assistant. She was devoted to her clients. Hazel also enjoyed crocheting, reading and jigsaw puzzles. She collected hummingbirds and dolls.
There will be a funeral service at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home in Bogalusa, LA on May 22, 2024 at Noon. Visitation will be in the chapel beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Fussell Cemetery.
