Mr. Durwood Wayne Alford, a native of Bogalusa, LA and resident of Covington, LA passed away surrounded by his family at his residence on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the age of 87. After graduating from Louisiana State University in 1958, Durwood began his 42-year employment with Crown Zellerbach in Bogalusa, LA. His work brought him to Oregon for six years before bringing him home to Bogalusa until his retirement. Mr. Alford was a member of Bogalusa First Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Mandeville. Durwood enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, and tending to his assortment of plants. He also enjoyed spending time with his family especially his nine grandchildren.
Mr. Alford is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie Giacone Alford; his children, Durlene (John) Bigler of Houma, LA, Dru (Scott) Scoggin of Slidell, LA, Durie (Lenny) St. Pierre of Woodstock, GA, and Durla (John) Kelleher of San Francisco, CA; and his nine grandchildren, Jace (Michelle) Bigler of Baton Rouge, LA, Jared Bigler of Memphis, TN, Sean Scoggin of Slidell, LA, Claire Scoggin of Slidell, LA, Landen St. Pierre of Woodstock, GA, Jordie St. Pierre of Baton Rouge, LA, Cardur St. Pierre of Woodstock, GA, Allie Kelleher of San Francisco, CA, and Zoe Kelleher of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Mr. Alford was preceded in death by his parents, Ottis Alford and Angie Pierce Alford, and his two sisters, Melda Foil and Jean Adams.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. until time for the services at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Tommy Pittman officiating the services. Entombment to follow at Sanctuary of Peace Mausoleum.
The Alford Family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The Alford Family would also like to give a special thank you to Mr. Alford's caregivers: Jackie, Jane, Jo, Sharon, Clara, and Stephanie.
