Barbara Ann Williams Nevers

On August 26, 2026, the cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Barbara Ann Williams Nevers, left this earthly life and entered the presence of her Heavenly Father. She passed away peacefully at her home in Bogalusa, Louisiana, surrounded by her loving family.

Ann was born on June 24, 1946, to W.E. and Cintilla Williams. She began her career in the Savings Department at First State Bank and Trust Company before attending Southeastern Louisiana University, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education. She went on to teach Kindergarten and First Grade in Washington Parish and Bogalusa School systems.

In 1980, Ben and Ann founded Nevers Electrical Contracting Company, Inc., where she served as the office manager of the family business. She dearly loved this role because it allowed her to work alongside her husband and best friend.

When Ben was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 1999, Ann became an active member of the Louisiana Legislative Spouses Organization, where she later served as president. She treasured the dear friendships she made through the organization and especially enjoyed its monthly outings and fellowship. While in Baton Rouge, she also cherished attending the weekly Legislative Women’s Prayer Meeting and was a faithful member of the group. The time she spent in prayer and fellowship with these women was very dear to her. Ann remained a constant source of love and support to Ben throughout his years of public service. She stood faithfully by his side as he continued to serve the State of Louisiana in the Senate and later as Chief of Staff to former Governor John Bel Edwards.

Ann was also an active member of the Civic League of Bogalusa for many years and was instrumental in the creation of the current “Dogwood emblem” used by the Civic League.

She was a devoted member of Lee’s Creek Baptist Church. She loved singing in the choir, where she shared her beautiful alto voice, and shared her talents as a pianist and organist. Most importantly, Ann’s love for her Savior was evident in the way she lived her life and in the kindness she showed to everyone around her.

Above all, Ann’s life revolved around her husband and her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Ben Wayne Nevers, Sr.; her children, Ben Wayne “Benjie” Nevers, Jr., Julie Ann Nevers, and James Andrew “Andy” (Amanda) Nevers; her grandchildren, Drake Pierce (Maggie), Blake Pierce (Hailee), Chase (Kaitlyn) Nevers, Loralai “LuLu” (Caleb) Beaudette, Callie (Seth) Lee, and Thomas Nevers; and her great-grandchildren, Porter Lee, Kennedy Lee, and Prentis Lee.

She is also survived by her sister, Diane Williams Mathews; and her sisters- and brothers-in-law, Theresa (Mack) Wascom and Ann (Roger) Chauvin and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.E. and Cintilla Williams; her sister, Suzie Williams McKenzie; and her mother- and father-in-law, Ben and Iva Nevers.

Ann leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, devotion to family and friends, kindness, gentleness, and love. The lessons she taught through her words and, more importantly, through the way she lived her life will continue through the generations of her family and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Lee’s Creek Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow in the Lee’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Lee’s Creek Baptist Church in Ann’s memory.

Pallbearers will be Drake Pierce, Blake Pierce, Chase Nevers, Caleb Beaudette, Thomas Nevers, and Billy Wayne Pounds.
