ADA MARY “VIRGINIA” CARROLL
Died Monday, August 17, 2026 at Central Guest House in Central, LA, at the age of 91. She was a life-long resident of Bogalusa.
Virginia received her bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1956, and a subsequent masters-plus-30 from University of Southern Mississippi. Although she began her teaching career at Columbia School in Bogalusa in 1956, she taught at Tyndall Elementary School in Panama City, FL from 1966-1980 before returning to the Bogalusa System. She retired from Bogalusa Junior High School in 2006, with a career in teaching and as Guidance Counselor spanning fifty years.
Virginia was a member of Calvary Christian Fellowship, where she also served as Church Secretary and Treasurer for forty-one years, retiring from that position just three years ago at the age of 88. She also spent decades as an active member of the Bogalusa Lions’ Club, and for years dedicated her gifts to numerous charities, including the National Kidney Association.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles O. and Frances T. Carroll, and siblings Huey Charles Carroll and Jerry Faye Carroll.
She is survived by first cousins Irma Stafford Temple, Jackie Tullos Shepherd, Barbara “Bobbie” Varnado Sceroler, Carolyn Cunningham Varnado, Randall Fallin (Shari), Loretta Bankston Morgan (Melvin), Rae Bankston Cupp (Ronnie), Gayle Bankston Thompson (Art), Theresa Bankston Howes (Billy), Calvin “Cal” Bankston (Tammy). She is also survived by special second cousins/dedicated caregivers L’Iska Temple Curcio (Kelly), LeChell Temple Smith (James), Shannon Temple, Ricardo “Ric” Smith, and a host of other second and third cousins.
Visitation will be held at Calvary Christian Fellowship, 1240 Avenue F, Bogalusa, LA, on Friday, August 21st from 5 until 9 PM, and again from 11 AM until 1PM funeral service on Saturday, August 22nd, officiated by Rev. Larry Lassley, Sr. Burial will be at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, 53348 Highway 10, Franklinton, LA.
Pallbearers will be Jason Pierce, Ric Smith, Donnie Sceroler, Michael Sceroler, Lance Sceroler, and Chad Varnado.
